Recital 119 – Organisation of Several Supervisory Authorities of a Member State*

1Where a Member State establishes several supervisory authorities, it should establish by law mechanisms for ensuring the effective participation of those supervisory authorities in the consistency mechanism. 2That Member State should in particular designate the supervisory authority which functions as a single contact point for the effective participation of those authorities in the mechanism, to ensure swift and smooth cooperation with other supervisory authorities, the Board and the Commission.

Why Recital 119 Matters for GDPR Compliance?

Recital 119 matters for GDPR compliance because it deals with situations where a Member State has multiple supervisory authorities. It requires clear coordination mechanisms and the designation of a single contact point to ensure consistent participation in the GDPR consistency mechanism. This prevents fragmentation and ensures smooth cooperation at both national and EU levels.
